How it works in FileLume

  • Light, Balanced, and Maximum currently map to export quality values of 0.88, 0.74, and 0.55.
  • Batch files are processed sequentially so the browser does not hold every conversion step at once.

Format and quality guidance

  • JPG is usually the practical choice for photos, but it removes transparency.
  • PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges but can remain large because PNG is lossless.
  • WebP is often a smaller web-delivery format when the destination supports it.

Trade-offs to expect

  • Lower quality reduces size by discarding visual detail, especially around text, texture, and high-contrast edges.
  • A source that is already optimized can produce little savings or a larger result when exported to a poorly matched format.

Limitations

  • Very large pixel dimensions can exceed mobile browser memory even when the file size looks reasonable.
  • The current canvas export path does not preserve all source metadata.

Common errors and fixes

The compressed file is larger than the original.
Keep the original format or try JPG/WebP for photos; the source may already be optimized.
Transparent areas became solid.
Use PNG or WebP output instead of JPG.
The browser runs out of memory.
Process fewer files at once or resize oversized dimensions before compressing.

What do Light, Balanced, and Maximum mean?

They currently export at quality 0.88, 0.74, and 0.55. Lower quality normally produces smaller files with more visible loss.

Does compression change image dimensions?

Not in the normal Compress Image flow. It re-exports the current dimensions unless another tool or preset changes them first.

Why did PNG not shrink much?

PNG is lossless and is best for transparency or sharp graphics. A photo often shrinks more as JPG or WebP.
