What this tool does

Upload a PDF or image to FileLume Pro so the configured OCR provider can extract text and return a downloadable TXT result.

How it works in FileLume

  • The selected document is uploaded over HTTPS to the FileLume processing service.
  • The configured OCR provider receives the document only for text extraction; FileLume returns the provider text as a .txt file.
  • The current server limit is 500MB per file. The file is uploaded over HTTPS for the requested operation, and temporary working files are deleted when the request finishes, including failed requests.

Best for

  • Extracting text from scanned PDF pages or photographed documents.
  • Creating a text copy for search, review, or reuse.
  • Recovering text when the PDF contains image pages rather than selectable text.

Format and quality guidance

  • OCR output is plain text and does not preserve the full page layout, fonts, tables, or images.
  • Clear, upright, high-contrast scans generally produce better text recognition.

Trade-offs to expect

  • OCR can misread small text, handwriting, unusual fonts, skewed pages, and low-contrast scans.
  • This operation requires a server upload because the configured OCR processor does not run in the normal browser flow.

Limitations

  • The returned text must be checked before legal, financial, medical, or other high-impact use.
  • Password-protected, damaged, or unsupported documents can fail before OCR begins.

Common errors and fixes

The text contains recognition mistakes.
Use a clearer scan, correct page rotation, and review the TXT output against the source.
The file cannot be processed.
Confirm the document opens normally, is not password-protected, and is below the current server limit.
Tables lost their layout.
OCR returns extracted text, not a layout-faithful document reconstruction.
