What this tool does

Extract selected pages from a PDF according to the file’s actual page order, not the printed page labels visible inside the document.

How it works in FileLume

  • The tool parses ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10 against the PDF page index.
  • Extract mode creates a focused PDF from selected pages; split-every-page creates separate page outputs when that mode is selected.

Best for

  • Saving one invoice, receipt, certificate, or signature page from a longer PDF.
  • Creating a smaller attachment that contains only the requested section.
  • Separating a document into page-level outputs for another workflow.

Format and quality guidance

  • Count pages from the first page in the PDF viewer, including cover pages and blank separators.
  • Use comma-separated values and hyphenated ranges such as 1-3, 5.
  • Keep the original file until every output has been checked.

Trade-offs to expect

  • Printed page numbers can differ from the actual PDF page index.
  • Splitting does not reduce image quality, but many outputs can be harder to organize.

Limitations

  • Encrypted, restricted, or damaged PDFs may fail to load.
  • Very large files can exceed local browser memory during page copying.

Common errors and fixes

The wrong page was extracted.
Use the PDF viewer page number rather than the printed number inside the document.
The range is rejected.
Use values such as 1-3, 5 and keep every number within the document page count.
The PDF cannot be processed.
Confirm the file opens normally and is not locked or damaged.

Split PDF FAQ

Can I save one page?

Yes. Enter one actual PDF page number.

Can I use several ranges?

Yes. A value such as 1-3, 5, 8-10 selects multiple sections.

Why do printed page numbers not match?

Cover pages, contents pages, and roman-numeral sections can shift the actual PDF page index.

Practical workflow examples

Saving pages 2–5 from a long policy document.

Enter the needed page range, preview the source order, and download only the extracted pages.

Constraint: Viewer page labels can differ from the PDF’s actual page positions.
